Provisional
License
Before you can legally drive a car in the UK you need
to obtain a provisional driving license. To do this you need to get
complete form D1 (available from the Post Office). Be sure to enclose
proof of your identity, two passport-type photos and the application
fee of £45. Allow 2 to 4 weeks from time of posting for delivery.
See the DVLA website for further information.
Theory and Hazard Perception Test (HPT)
Both tests need to be successfully passed before you can apply for
a practical driving test. Once passed, the certificate is only valid
for 2 years. For cars and motorcycles you'll
be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes and the pass mark is 43 out
of 50.
The pass mark for the car and motorcycle hazard perception part
of the theory test is 44 out of 75.
To book your Theory and HPT test on-line or
for further information about the Theory and the HPT tests visit
the DSA website. Your UKdrive trainer will offer you further advice
and loan you various books and CD-Roms to ensure you pass these
tests as part of your on-going training.
